College
Ideally, you will have decided by now what your occupational goals
are – at least having chosen a cluster of occupations that you prefer over
others. If you have not accomplished that task yet, we suggest you do the
following:
-
Take the interest assessment (Kuder® Career Search with Person Match), the
skills inventory (Kuder Skills Assessment), and print out the Composite Report
from these two. You might want to discuss this report with a career counselor
on campus.
-
Explore careers to
find a list of occupations in the clusters of your highest interest and/or
skill and to get detailed information about them.
-
Take the values inventory (Super’s Work Values Inventory-revised) to help you
identify your personal values so you can remove occupations from your list that
will not help you attain your values.
Once you can identify one or a group of occupations that you want to pursue,
your next very critical task is to choose a major. You are much more likely to
be motivated to stay in college if you have a career plan.
Identify and learn about majors most
closely related to your occupational choice. Then, find out if your present
school has one or more of those majors.
